Judgment for Texas Disposal upheld on appeal
The Austin Court of Appeals has affirmed a significant trial court judgment for Graves Dougherty client Texas Disposal Systems Landfill, Inc.
On May 18, the Court of Appeals issued its opinion upholding a judgment of $7.1 million in favor of Texas Disposal and against Waste Management of Texas, Inc. The judgment was entered after a trial in October and November of 2010 in Travis County District Court. The jury found, and the Court of Appeals affirmed, that Waste Management had made false statements about the environmental integrity of Texas Disposal’s landfill. The verdict was recognized by Texas Lawyer as the state’s largest intentional torts verdict in 2010, and among the top 20 verdicts of all types statewide that year.
