Environmental Associate

Graves Dougherty Hearon & Moody, P.C. seeks a candidate with a minimum of four years of experience to join the firm’s Administrative and Regulatory Litigation practice group to focus on environmental and water law. The ideal candidate must have experience before the State Office of Administrative Hearings, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and state district courts. Experience before the Public Utility Commission is a plus but not required. The candidate will have a desire to take on cases involving complex legal and environmental issues in the areas of wastewater permitting, air permitting, groundwater rights, and environmental due diligence related to property acquisition. All candidates should have a strong academic background, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

Candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Status as an active member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Experience with, or demonstrated interest in, the major environmental statutes, such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act or Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Experience with, or demonstrated interest in, Texas groundwater rights law and policy, in particular, working with groundwater conservation districts.
  • Strong analytical, research, writing and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, strong problem solving skills, ability to work well under deadlines, and ability to assume significant client responsibilities.
