Jury Finds Builders FirstSource Liable for $89 Million in Fatal Trucking Crash Case

A Travis County, Texas, jury late Friday, February 3, found leading national construction materials supplier BMC West, LLC (now part of Dallas-based Builders FirstSource) responsible for a 2019 trucking crash that caused the death of 72-year-old Jonestown, Texas, resident Joy Williams. The jury awarded compensatory damages of $19 million for Joy’s 13 days of pain and suffering before her death, and a further $70 million in punitive damages after finding that Joy’s injuries and death were caused by the company’s gross negligence.

Travis County Probate Judge Guy Herman presided over the two-week trial. Joy Williams’ estate was represented at trial by GDHM attorneys Matt Powers and Doug Kilday.
